Tooth Extractions in Richmond, TX

Unfortunately, there are times when a tooth needs to be removed, or “extracted”, at Studio Dental of River Park. A tooth extraction is necessary when a patient’s health and well-being are jeopardized due to an impacted wisdom tooth, a severe tooth infection, or teeth overcrowding. In our state-of-the-art office, we use the latest imaging technology to safely and predictably remove a tooth. Imaging technology is critical because it helps us to plan the extraction process with the most minimal amount of trauma – which helps with post-operative pain, and a significant decline in healing time. This translates to an overall better experience, and less down-time so you can carry on with your day-to-day life.

There are two main types of extractions, both of which are commonly treated at Studio Dental of River Park. When the affected tooth is visible above the gum line it’s referred to as a “simple” extraction. Surgically removing a broken tooth from below the gum line is called an “impacted” extraction. Both types of extractions require about the same amount of healing time – typically 3-5 days – and are only differentiated due to the time required for the procedure to be completed.

Preparing for a Tooth Extraction

Prior to having a tooth extraction performed in our office, a detailed examination is performed for the tooth needing an extraction, and 3D digital X-rays are taken. With this information, Dr. Tien Dang will help you to determine the best course-of-action. For your own safety, it’s important that you give us details about any health conditions you have, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Congenital heart defects
  • Liver disease
  • Damaged heart valves
  • Adrenal disease
  • Weakened immune system (Ex. undergoing chemotherapy)
  • A history of bacterial endocarditis
  • Recent transplant recipient

Based upon any pre-existing medical conditions, Dr. Tien Dang may need to prescribe a course of antibiotics leading up to the extraction appointment. This ensures that the extraction process goes smoothly and that you’re on your way to a healthier mouth.

At the Extraction Appointment
